Marcia Jones Alfaro, consultant

Marcia Jones Alfaro worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for nearly 20 years.  During that time, she was intimately involved in Medicare, Medicaid, health care reform, insurance policy and tax policy.   She understands that when government is involved, things can become more complicated — even when laws and regulations are intended to serve.  This motivated her to form Visionary Insurance Advocates to help consumers get the highest quality of service in the changing insurance marketplace.

  • On Medicare:  Marcia understands that a great deal of uncertainty surrounds the future of Medicare, which is causing anxiety and concern for senior citizens.  Her understanding of the legislative process and Medicare policy makes her uniquely suited to help advise and guide agents and clients through the uncertainties and changing dynamics of the Medicare program.
  • On Obamacare:  With the adoption of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a new layer of complexity has been added to the health care market.  As an attorney, Alfaro is uniquely suited to guide insurance agents and their clients through the complexities presented by the new law in order to facilitate the choice of the client’s best coverage options.

Having been involved in public service for most of her career, Alfaro easily transitions to customer service.  “The goal of VIA is to help insurance consumers find the best policies to suit their needs by offering plans from a variety of reputable insurance carriers through hand-selected insurance advisors who have the highest levels of integrity and dedication to customer service,” she says.

Alfaro received a degree in economics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a law degree from the George Washington University National Law Center in Washington, D.C.  She is licensed to practice law in South Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.  She is a licensed insurance broker for the state of South Carolina.  She served for six years as an adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law and taught a course called “Legislation.”   She is married with three children and lives in Charleston, S.C.
